Apply for a research degree
Application and admission varies, depending on the type of course you choose
Before you apply for a Research degree, you must
- Check your eligibility - To apply for a PhD, you must meet the eligibility requirements. Use the postgraduate research eligibility self-assessment to determine your eligibility before applying.
- Decide on a research area and topic - Choose a research area in which the Faculty has expertise by reviewing the Faculty’s areas of research and priorities, and checking the list of potential supervisors in the Faculty. When selecting a potential supervisor, applicants should be aware that they may be allocated to a different supervisor within the same research area, if required.
- Prepare a research proposal - Submit with your application clearly specifying your research area and topic. This must be attached to your application.
- Prepare supporting documentation (e.g. certified copies of academic transcripts, resume).
- If you are not applying for a Monash University scholarship, contact at least one of our Faculty schools and identify a potential research supervisor based on your research area. Identifying a supervisor is not a necessary requirement if you applying for a Monash scholarship.
